Rhinoplasty

Isolated plastic surgery of the wings and tip of the nose is rarely performed.It is usually part of the rhinoplasty complex.But in some cases, improved wings are the missing detail that can instantly change the overall appearance for the better.

Parameters of beautiful nostrils

The nostrils are paired, symmetrically arranged cartilages that form the nostrils.

The main parameters of harmoniously shaped nostrils can be called symmetry and proportionality.When we talk about the aesthetics of the olfactory organ, we usually mean a flat back, a well-groomed tip and a moderate protrusion (length) of the nose.The nostrils attract less attention due to the fact that they occupy a small area.

The aesthetic design of the wings is very important!I can assume that a layperson in the field of facial aesthetics cannot always recognize where the “ugliness” of the nose lies.At first glance, it's not all bad, but one element stands out from the well-tailored design.Ugly wings are a touch that can destroy all the harmony created by nature.

They must be symmetrical and proportional to the entire external part of the respiratory organ!

Nose after nose surgery

In which cases is surgery necessary?

Correction of the wings of the nose can be either an isolated operation performed only on paired cartilages, or part of a complex to correct the nose and septum - rhinoseptoplasty.

Let's highlight the 3 most common wing defects that can be corrected surgically:

  1. Nostrils and wings too wide.
  2. Asymmetrical wings.We all naturally have asymmetry.That's okay.But in some cases the dissonance cannot be hidden.Therefore, nostrils that differ significantly in size or location (higher or lower) can be entrusted to a plastic surgeon.
  3. Fleshy, thick nostrils.The cause can be thickened skin or excess cartilage tissue.
  4. Unaesthetic shape.

The listed defects on the nostrils cannot be corrected with filler injections!

How complicated is this process?

If we compare the correction of the wings with plastic surgery of all parts of the external nose, then of course the first case is easier for the surgeon to perform.

“Simplicity” does not mean that it can be done without great effort and/or without sufficient experience.On the contrary, the reduction of the nasal wings and the formation of a new configuration requires a careful approach and planning by a specialist of his actions.

I repeat: the wings are a small area that requires extreme precision to work on.

What anesthesia is used?

The topic of anesthesia during plastic surgery is of great concern to patients.I would divide the audience into two camps: those who are against general anesthesia and try to avoid it by all means, and those who strive to survive the procedure in a state of oblivion and like to fall into a drug-induced sleep.

Pay attention!

  • If we perform an operation in combination with a complex rhinoplasty, general anesthesia is required.
  • If we are only correcting cartilage, we can use intravenous sedation with local anesthesia.

Preparation for surgery

The extent of preoperative preparation depends on the type of procedure.Extensive examinations are required for rhinoplasty under general anesthesia.

Tests to be completed

  • Clinical blood test;
  • Biochemical blood test (total protein, urea, creatinine, bilirubin (total), ALT, AST, glucose, potassium, sodium);
  • coagulogram (INR, prothrombin, bleeding time, clotting time);
  • blood test for RW (syphilis), HIV;
  • Hbc;
  • Antigen+Anti-HCV (Hepatitis B, C);
  • blood group, Rh factor;
  • General urine test;
  • ECG (electrocardiogram) with interpretation;
  • Computed tomography of the nose.

With isolated nostril surgery, you will need to undergo slightly fewer tests.

On the day of the operation

The patient comes to the clinic with an empty stomach (for complex rhinoplasty) or after a light morning (nose correction under intravenous sedation).

After the usual organizational measures for signing the contract, payment, etc., consultations with specialists follow.It is absolutely necessary that an anesthetist takes a medical history and of course has a further conversation with the operating surgeon.

After an operation for complex rhinoplasty under general anesthesia, the patient is taken to the recovery room, where his condition is carefully monitored.

After the wings are sewn, the patient goes home a few hours later.

How is the rehabilitation going?

Rehabilitation after rhinoseptoplasty and nostril surgery is significantly different.

If only the wings have been corrected, you are the lucky one who does not need any complex facial structures (e.g. a splint).The doctor seals the correction area with special strips.This has practically no impact on your quality of life and well-being.

Once you get home, you can return to your normal lifestyle with minimal adjustments.

Stitches after wing surgery

When reducing the size of the nostrils, the seams are on the outside.After 6-7 days, the doctor removes the stitches.Traces of the intervention will be visible for some time.But after a few months you will forget about them as long as you follow proper care.

Scar treatment rules:

  • After the stitches have been removed, a bandage/plaster may be placed on the wound, which can be removed after a day and then there is usually no need to cover the wound with a bandage or plaster.
  • Do not wet the wound on the day of suture removal to ensure any holes are closed.
  • The healing wound will remain sensitive for several weeks - protect the wound area from external damage and avoid friction from tight clothing.If desired, you can cover the wound with a bandage/plaster.

Rhinoplasty, price

The cost of rhinoplasty depends on the type of aesthetic defect to be corrected as well as the complexity and extent of the upcoming procedure.For your information, we present the estimated costs of different types of surgical procedures in the table.You can only find out the final cost of the service after a personal consultation.
